Description
A spectacular 1940s/50s feather cocktail hat by Marion Valle New York, retailed through Michael Ann at Marshall Field Annex. The shape is small but theatrical, built from warm orange crushed velvet with sculptural brown-and-cream spotted feather trim, airy copper-toned netting, and a vivid red feather plume that curves across the front.
This is one of those mid-century hats that feels more like wearable sculpture than accessory. The contrast of earthy spotted feathers, orange velvet, and electric red plume gives it a strange, beautiful, almost surreal glamour. It would be incredible with a black column dress, sharp tailoring, a silk blouse and trousers, or used for editorial styling, performance, costume design, or display.
The interior labels read Marion Valle New York and Michael Ann / Marshall Field Annex. Era is estimated from Melynda’s in-shoot note, the label design, construction, materials, and period millinery styling.
