Description
A remarkable 1950s cocktail hat labeled Miss Dior, Created by Christian Dior, rendered in rich royal blue silk velvet with pale blue floral trim and a sweeping face veil.
The structured open-crown base is shaped from broad folded panels of plush blue velvet, creating a sculptural silhouette that frames the top of the head rather than fully covering it. Pale blue silk flowers and olive-toned leaves gather along the crown, adding softness and dimensional contrast to the saturated blue foundation.
A matching blue veil falls dramatically over the face in an oversized, irregular open-net pattern. The result is romantic without feeling overly delicate, combining classic mid-century occasion dressing with the theatrical polish associated with vintage Dior millinery.
Inside, the hat retains its Miss Dior, Created by Christian Dior label as well as an L. S. Ayres & Co. Indianapolis retailer label. Small interior combs help anchor the hat securely when worn.

Fit Notes
Estimated modern hat size Small based on stylists. The structured hat base has limited flexibility and is designed to sit at or slightly behind the hairline.
Small interior combs help secure the hat to the hair. No numeric size is visible.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition overall, especially considering the age and delicacy of the original materials.
The royal blue velvet retains strong color, shape, and surface presentation. The hat structure remains intact, and the interior labels and securing combs are present.
The silk flowers show expected age-related softening, light fading, minor discoloration, and fraying along some petal and leaf edges. The veil has natural waviness, areas of distortion, minor pulls, and irregularity along the outer edge. These details are visible in the photographs and are consistent with an original mid-century floral and net-trimmed hat.
No major crushing, extensive staining, or structural collapse is visible.
Styling Notes
Pair it with a black column dress, a sharply tailored ivory suit, an evening coat, or saturated jewel tones. It would also be exceptional for bridal styling, costume design, editorial photography, formal events, or display within a vintage fashion collection.
The face veil may be arranged to fall centrally, swept slightly to one side, or styled closer to the crown depending on the desired effect.
