Description
A beautifully preserved late 1940s to early 1950s tilt hat by Voguemont, Chicago and New York, rendered in a warm burnished gold with delicate textural detailing.
The softly structured body follows an asymmetric, close-to-the-head silhouette designed to sit at an elegant angle. A coordinating silk net overlay wraps around the crown and extends slightly beyond the hat’s edge, creating a light veiled effect without obscuring the face.
Tiny metallic-thread accents are worked across the surface, catching the light with a subtle glimmer rather than a high-shine finish. Small tufted dots are scattered through the netting, while three petite striped grosgrain bows run along the crown’s center line.
The combination of the asymmetric shape, tonal netting, miniature bows, and warm golden color gives the hat a distinctive mid-century polish. It feels refined enough for formal dressing while retaining the clever, slightly whimsical construction that makes original period millinery so compelling.
The interior is finished with a warm apricot-toned lining and grosgrain inner band. The original Voguemont label reads “Chicago, New York,” and a period union label remains attached.

This is a structured tilt hat intended to sit at an angle near the hairline rather than pull deeply over the crown. The interior opening has limited flexibility.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition overall, especially considering the age and delicacy of the original silk and net materials.
The hat retains its sculptural shape, warm golden color, ribbon bows, tufted accents, and metallic surface detailing. The exterior presents beautifully when worn.
The silk netting shows expected age-related waviness, scattered pulls, minor breaks, and irregularity along portions of the outer edge. The interior lining shows visible age-related darkening, handling marks, and a small reddish-orange mark. The Voguemont and union labels show age wear but remain attached and legible.
These details are visible in the photographs and do not compromise the hat’s overall structure or dramatic presentation.
Styling Notes
Pair it with black, cream, tobacco brown, olive green, oxblood, or deep navy. It would be particularly strong with a sharply tailored suit, a bias-cut evening dress, a structured wool coat, or an understated black column.
The hat may be tilted toward either side depending on hairstyle and preference. Its burnished color and tonal netting also make it an excellent choice for editorial styling, period costume, formal events, display, or a nontraditional bridal look.
