Description
Product Description
A wonderfully delicate 1950s half hat in a muted palette of champagne, dusty taupe, soft beige, and faded blush.
The design is built around a narrow silk-velvet base, layered with airy feather trim that sweeps across the crown in an intentionally light, irregular arrangement. Tonal net veiling extends from the structure and falls loosely around the face, adding an ethereal finish.
Small velvet ribbon details appear at the back, giving the piece a quietly feminine counterpoint to the more textural feather and net construction.
This is not a conventional full-crown hat. It is intended to perch lightly against the head, creating a floating, asymmetric silhouette associated with mid-century cocktail and occasion dressing.
The interior carries a Chas. A. Stevens & Co., Chicago retailer label and an additional union-made millinery label.
A beautiful styling piece for collectors, editorial work, costume, display, or anyone drawn to the romance of visibly aged mid-century millinery.

Fit Notes
Estimated modern hat size XS/S.
The piece is designed to perch lightly against the head rather than fit deeply over the crown. Its narrow, structured base has limited flexibility and will work best on a smaller head size.
Placement can be adjusted depending on hairstyle and preferred angle. Hat pins or hairpins may be helpful for secure wear.
Condition
Good vintage condition with visible age-related wear consistent with the delicacy and age of the materials.
The underlying structure remains intact and the piece retains its distinctive feathered silhouette. The Chas. A. Stevens label and union-made label remain present and legible.
The feather trim shows noticeable age-related flattening, separation, bending, fraying, and unevenness, with some thinner areas and irregular feather ends. The net veil is highly delicate and shows multiple breaks, stretched sections, loose strands, openings, and areas of distortion throughout.
The velvet base and ribbon details show light surface wear, softening, and age-related discoloration. The labels show toning and wear.
These characteristics are clearly visible in the photographs and form part of the piece’s authentic vintage presentation.
Styling Notes
Style it with a chocolate suit, bias-cut slip dress, cream tailoring, antique lace, washed silk, sharp black evening wear, or an oversized modern blazer.
The muted neutral palette lends itself particularly well to bridal editorials, period costume, surrealist styling, theatrical portraiture, or a deliberately undone evening look.
