Meet your designer
Hi, I’m Melynda.
I’m Melynda Choothesa, Founder and Creative Director of Quirk and Couture Zen. Based in Los Angeles, I’m also a fashion designer, costume designer and stylist. My work moves between music-video costumes, personal styling and bespoke pieces for individual clients.
My costume work includes Bad Bunny’s “Volví” in Puerto Rico. I also designed and constructed a Satine-inspired costume for model Kelsey Merritt, reworking a vintage showgirl corset with hand-draped details. For Kaiser Permanente’s Rose Parade float, my work brought costume design and styling to a very different setting.
Across those projects and private commissions, I think about the person, the setting and what the clothes need to do. For your bespoke piece, that starts with your ideas, how you move and how you want to feel—from the silhouette to the fabric and finishing details.

From “Volví”
to a wedding day.
After Melynda designed costumes for Bad Bunny’s “Volví” music video in Puerto Rico, a tuxedo from the video caught the attention of a couple planning their wedding in Orlando. Drawn to the video’s “Latino Gatsby” look, they tracked her down to commission a bespoke version for the groom.
Made from raw Thai silk, the jacket was fully bespoke—and the entire commission happened remotely over Zoom. Melynda never met the couple in person. She created two options, and one stayed with the studio. Ty models a jacket from that project here, with contrasting black lapels and pocket trim.

Melynda designed the original navy-and-green suit for Justin Chien of The Brothers Sun to wear to the Avatar: The Last Airbender world premiere.
After the look circulated in the AAPI and entertainment communities, another client approached her for a version of his own. The fitting photograph here shows that subsequent commission.
