Product Description:

This dramatic 1950s tilt hat by Dayne Originals is a standout example of midcentury American millinery. Crafted from tightly woven black straw, the structured silhouette sits at a forward angle on the head—true to the classic “tilt hat” form popular in the postwar era.

At the front, layered grosgrain ribbon panels in cream, cocoa, and black form a clean chevron peak, anchored by a single rhinestone for subtle sparkle. The interior is finished with a petersham ribbon band and the original woven label: “An Original by Dayne.” The hat is in excellent vintage condition with no visible flaws, and comes with its original branded hat box, a rare bonus for collectors.

While the netting is no longer present, the structure and presentation remain impeccable, ready to wear or display.

About the Designer:
 Dayne was a midcentury American milliner known for bold, feminine forms and department store distribution during the 1940s–1960s. Though lesser-known today, their creations capture the refined glamour of the time with strong shapes and careful detailing.

Ten out of five stars for Melynda and her all volunteer Quirk crew for creating the People's Free Boutique in an unused corner space in DTLA, providing much needed, intentional, and high quality clothing and supplies for those of us who lost everything in LA's January fires. My family and I came to Quirk and were welcomed with care and respect, mirroring the quality and thoughtfulness of the clothing offered, and being given the dignity of choice to dress ourselves in clothing that we prefer.

The Quirk crew were professional and kind, dealing with a gradually melting down child and frazzled adults, recognizing and validating the collective trauma of their guests, and providing a space of hope, solace, and care out of the goodness of their hearts.

I was able to restock much of my professional and casual wardrobe, grab some high quality toiletries, kids clothing, and an epic penny board for my kid. I cannot recommend a visit to the People's Free Boutique and Melynda's Quirk store on 9th enough!

Quirk for Fire Vicitms has been such a special place for me. I have found wonderful clothes to get myself started after losing my home in Pacific Palisades. The boutique is clean, organized and the volunteers are so kind and helpful. I volunteered at Quirk all afternoon today, and there is so much love and support alive in that space. They are overwhelmed with so many incredible donations and every single thing is being sorted and placed directly into the free shop where fire victims can come shop and get what they need. All items are the same quality you would find in a thrift store like Buffalo Exchange. There were volunteers helping people find clothing items that fit and served their needs while they’re grappling with the loss of their homes and belongings. Everything was clean, well sorted, in good condition, and I even found some pieces that still had tags on them! QUIRK is the absolute best. I've come several times since 2020 and they never miss. Melynda is a top-tier curator. All her pieces feel hand-picked with thought, care, and a keen eye for taste and style. It's easy to find a great deal here: I've found a vintage Dior wallet at QUIRK, as well as multiple outfits for red carpets, premieres, photoshoots, and day-to-day wear. She keeps prices super fair and reasonable while knowing her stuff when it comes to true vintage, designer, and quality. I always know I'm getting my money's worth. As someone who loves vintage shopping, thrifting, and flea/artist/vintage markets, I'm always looking for vendors and stores, and QUIRK is one of those special places where you can tell vintage is a real passion, not just a place to make a quick buck on a Tiktok trend (though you can definitely find super trendy pieces here too!). At QUIRK, I'd say clothes are treated like found treasure looking for their forever home! I come back again and again because the pieces are fun and always changing. As a store owner, Melynda is friendly, knowledgable, and is great at offering styling advice for each customer's unique taste.
