Description

1950s Dayne Original Woven Straw Tilt Hat with Grosgrain Chevron Trim – One Size

Product Description:

This dramatic 1950s tilt hat by Dayne Originals is a standout example of midcentury American millinery. Crafted from tightly woven black straw, the structured silhouette sits at a forward angle on the head—true to the classic “tilt hat” form popular in the postwar era.

At the front, layered grosgrain ribbon panels in cream, cocoa, and black form a clean chevron peak, anchored by a single rhinestone for subtle sparkle. The interior is finished with a petersham ribbon band and the original woven label: “An Original by Dayne.” The hat is in excellent vintage condition with no visible flaws, and comes with its original branded hat box, a rare bonus for collectors.

While the netting is no longer present, the structure and presentation remain impeccable, ready to wear or display.

About the Designer:
Dayne was a midcentury American milliner known for bold, feminine forms and department store distribution during the 1940s–1960s. Though lesser-known today, their creations capture the refined glamour of the time with strong shapes and careful detailing.

I helped out the Free People's Boutique by Quirk by sorting racks and registering shoppers on a Saturday. It was a humbling experience. I was asked to pass on so much gratitude to Melynda and her team by every guest I had the pleasure to assist.

Looking for unique style with a personal touch? Look no further than Quirk. From the moment I walked in, I felt like a VIP. The owner, Melynda, is not just a salesperson; she's a magician with fashion. She effortlessly picked out pieces that perfectly suited my taste and body type, creating looks I never imagined possible. The selection of vintage clothing is unparalleled, each piece telling its own story. Whether you're a seasoned vintage lover or a newbie, [Owner's Name] will elevate your wardrobe to new heights. Thank you for the fabulous experience!

This is the cutest store with a really well curated selection. Makes sense because the owner is a renowned stylist who has worked here and abroad. 10/10 recommend.

5 stars for what they are doing for the community but not for my personal experience. They were listed on the wildfire Google sheet / website as one of the few places still accepting donations, so I brought all my unworn clothes over. The address on the website and online is not the correct one, so had to get back in my car and find new parking closer to the new location. Then I get inside and they said donations are by appointment only. 30 minute drive and a lot of parking hassle with nothing to show for it. Would be nice if they updated their donation status and location on the Google sheet. Annoying for me but glad they are helping those in need. The new location is in the photo.

Service was excellent I was recommended with a well thought of outfit. Melynda a stylist and the owner was kind enough to take care of the details. The variety of curated designs are also exceptional from vintage 60's to early 2000's. The prices here is relatively reasonable given the fact that they provided guidance in styling that works for me.

I volunteered at The People's Free Boutique while it was still in its temporary space, and I am better for it. It is a wonderful resource, Melynda has been so organized, compassionate, and all around an amazing leader for this huge effort to assist those impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires. Through some folks' worst days, Melynda and the Quirk team were there. It's amazing that Melynda has kept it up for as long as she has, and I hope the People's Free Boutique can stay open as long as there is a community need.

The Staff at The People’s Free Boutique is amazing. These folks make the space come alive and fill it with positive energy and a high level of support. The clothes are well organized by sizes and styles. Learning about the journey that the organizers took to make this boutique a reality was very inspiring to me. I learned that this idea became a reality on January 8th - one day after the fire. This shows the passion, planning, and drive of the staff. I brought home some much needed clothes and more importantly I left a better person with a renewed outlook on community and collaboration.

I had such a wonderful time at Quirk. As someone who has never been to a fashion district and who has never been styled before, I hadn't extraordinary time getting to know my own sense of fashion. Melynda was so dope and helpful. She helped style me and gave me a new fresh look. I ended up buying something off of the $20 rack so she has affordable options as well. Definitely coming back again for my next shopping trip!
