Description

A sculptural 1950s/60s cocktail hat by Janice Custom Designed Chicago, balancing soft sage green with an unexpected burst of vivid fuchsia silk roses.

The rounded crown is finished with a closely pleated bumper edge that gives the silhouette depth without adding bulk. At one side, the fabric rises into a dramatic looped flourish framed by three dimensional rose blossoms and green leaves. The contrast between the muted sage body and saturated floral trim feels romantic, graphic, and remarkably current.

The underside is fully lined in a gold-toned woven fabric and finished with two interior metal combs to help secure the hat against the hair. It is designed to sit at a slight angle rather than cover the head like a conventional full-brim hat, creating the polished asymmetry associated with mid-century cocktail millinery.

Wear it with black tailoring, a minimal silk dress, a sharply cut suit, or a tonal green look that allows the pink roses to take focus. It would also be exceptional for editorial styling, a garden wedding, costume design, or display in a vintage millinery collection.

Fit Notes

Best fits a modern size XS/S based on documented item information. The structured crown is intended to sit at an angle rather than cover the full head. Two interior metal combs help anchor the piece against the hair.

The hat does not appear substantially adjustable. Hairstyle and placement may affect how it sits, but it should not be treated as one size fits most. No numeric hat size is provided.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition with light wear consistent with age. The crown retains its structure, the pleated edge remains crisp, and the sage green fabric presents beautifully. The silk roses remain vivid and dimensional, with minor softening and light fraying along some petal and leaf edges visible on close inspection.

The full interior lining is intact, with gentle creasing and faint age-related marks. Both interior combs remain present.

Styling Notes

Pair it with a black column dress, charcoal or cream tailoring, a tonal sage ensemble, or a simple silk slip. The fuchsia roses also make it a natural choice for garden parties, wedding styling, editorial work, costume production, or a deliberately romantic alternative to modern occasion headwear.

Curation Note

Each Quirk piece is hand selected by our team for quality, wearability, construction, styling potential, and point of view.

Quirk is the kind of place you walk into and immediately feel like you've inherited the wardrobe of a rich, eccentric aunt who traveled the world and kept all the best pieces. Every rack feels intentional, lived in, and full of personality. Nothing feels random. Each item has a story, and you can sense it the moment you start browsing. The bag selection alone is worth the stop. There are so many standout pieces that feel like true finds, not just resale. The kind of bags you don't see twice. What really makes this place special is the owner, Melynda. She's genuinely fun to talk to and clearly passionate about what she curates. You can tell there's pride and care behind every piece in the shop. Talking with her about vintage fashion and the stories behind the items made the experience feel personal, not transactional. This ended up being one of the coolest spots I stumbled into in the fashion district. If you appreciate vintage that feels curated and soulful rather than picked over, Quirk is a must.

I worked with Melynda on a professional photoshoot for my company and ever since then I have been going to her store. Such a great way to change up my style and find new unique items. I am a proud owner of a vintage Italian suit and have even rented a gown for a special event. Always looking for her insight when shopping there.

The owner/stylist here is so great!! We found this place on Yelp and it was our first stop to find a vintage 20s style outfit. We found 2 great dresses and the perfect hat! The prices are very reasonable too.

I highly recommend supporting this local business. The owner Melynda has been so generous in helping out fire victims by creating a pop up free clothing boutique, and volunteering her time there. She definitely has a strong eye for fashion and a heart of gold, so I recommend stopping by and supporting her shop!

I had the pleasure of stumbling upon Quirk fairly recently and I am most certainly delighted I found this little gem! Located on a busy downtown street, its colorful, unique vintage items are arranged and merchandised well! For a small space, a diverse range of eclectic items will most certainly entice you! Trust me, ya won't leave without buying a little keeper! I love the Seven 4 all Mankind Tight pencil skirt I found and I have some items on hold I can't wait to get! The Owner/Stylist, Melynda is an absolute doll, and a pleasure to chat with as you browse the items, If you are a vintage fanatic or Fashionista, check this place out! Tiny but lots of little treasures that are reasonably priced!

I was so happy to finally find a store in the heart of Dtla that sells true vintage clothing and accessories! It gets better- the owner, Melynda is a stylist/ costume designer who gave me style advice on a whim. Prices are reasonable and there’s even a $20 rack! Total hidden gem. Skip Zara. Check it out Quirk.

I volunteered at The People's Free Boutique while it was still in its temporary space, and I am better for it. It is a wonderful resource, Melynda has been so organized, compassionate, and all around an amazing leader for this huge effort to assist those impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires. Through some folks' worst days, Melynda and the Quirk team were there. It's amazing that Melynda has kept it up for as long as she has, and I hope the People's Free Boutique can stay open as long as there is a community need.

Great vintage shop in Downtown! With all the new vintage stores popping up around LA these days, Quirk really stands out with having unique, high quality items that are personally curated by the owner, Melynda, who is also a professional stylist and costume designer. Most vintage shops these days are just filled with XXL 80s/90s shirts, and overpriced jeans. Quirk has one-of-a-kind items that have made me a return customer. Most recent purchases were a 1970s YSL handbag and kimono jacket that always get me compliments when I wear them out.

I am such a shop-aholic at her store. I love her dresses and shoes. The owner always put a great story behind every outfit and whom she did her work. The owner, Melynda is AMAZING Stylist in the business. Her work is ABSOLUTELY amazing and her dog Prudence who comes into the store makes the vibe very loving and friendly. I pretty much spend my entire paycheck coming to this store. Very tempting and I always come out with the hottest looks at her store.

My experience with Quirk was online. I was in some need of something white to wear that catches the eye, and found something that suited my taste in a few minutes. I had a fun time browsing the site, looking at the selection that was offered, it was fun to see so many bright colors, which is why it was a pleasent surprise for me to find something I felt more comfortable with. I made my purchase online after seeing how the sizes were measured (which was more detailed than most other sites), and felt confident making my choice. After about 10 days it arrived, and it was exactly how I saw it on the site. I really liked the lenght and the feel of it, and it fit me great, I would recommend Quirk for anyone who wants to step up their outfit game.

My friends and I had a very pleasant and wonderful visit at Quirk. I got these beautiful snake skin shoes with a vintage neck scarf which i also fall in love with. I got compliments from people every time i wear them. I wanted to buy everything when I was there. There are jewelry, scarfs , shoes, dresses and the HATS. The price is very affordable so I was a happy shopper. The next best thing ( or the best ) about Quirk is the shop owner, Melynda. She is friendly and extremely helpful in helping you putting your dream outfits together and giving you advices when you needed them. She makes my shopping experience fun and comfortable. The shop is beautiful. I love the warmth and the openness of the shop. It stands out in the middle of the busy downtown LA streets. I will definitely come back and visit again when I come back to LA.
