Description

Product Description

A wonderfully textural 1960s pillbox hat by Genevieve, constructed in luminous golden straw and finished with an unexpectedly playful arrangement of velvet ribbon and fuzzy floral sprigs.

The tall cylindrical crown features a tightly woven straw base overlaid with looped and knotted straw detailing. The dimensional surface creates a lattice-like pattern that catches the light while preserving the hat’s clean, architectural silhouette.

Across the top, pale yellow silk velvet bows are arranged among green textile leaves and clusters of soft white buds. The trim has the charm of a miniature spring garden while remaining graphic enough to feel modern.

Its high, brimless profile creates a strong mid-century line and can be worn level across the crown or positioned slightly toward the back of the head. The lace-covered interior foundation keeps the piece lightweight despite its substantial shape.

Pair it with a sharply tailored suit, a minimal shift dress, crisp cotton separates, or a tonal evening look. It would also make an exceptional spring event hat, editorial styling piece, theatrical accessory, or addition to a vintage millinery collection.

Fit Notes

Best fits a modern size M/L based on documented item information.

This is a structured pillbox hat with a fixed interior opening and minimal flexibility. Its tall, brimless crown is intended to sit securely around the upper head rather than stretch or conform like a soft fabric hat.

It may be worn level, slightly tilted, or positioned toward the back of the crown. Discreet hatpins may be helpful depending on hairstyle and preferred placement.

No numeric hat size or exact interior circumference is provided.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition with light age-related wear.

The woven straw retains its tall cylindrical shape without major crushing, structural breaks, staining, or visible repairs. The intricate looped surface decoration remains full and securely attached.

The velvet bows, green leaves, and fuzzy white floral sprigs remain present and visually strong. Minor irregularity, gentle age toning, and a few stray fibers or loose decorative ends are visible upon close inspection, consistent with delicate vintage millinery.

The lace-covered interior remains clean and intact. The Genevieve label is clearly legible with light age-related wear.

Styling Notes

Style it with an ivory shift, black crepe dress, lemon silk, soft pistachio tailoring, or a sharply cut cream suit.

The tall crown creates a particularly strong profile when worn slightly toward the back of the head. Keep accompanying jewelry minimal or echo the floral trim with small pearl or botanical earrings.

Curation Note

Each Quirk piece is hand selected by our team for quality, wearability, construction, styling potential, and point of view.

I highly recommend supporting this local business. The owner Melynda has been so generous in helping out fire victims by creating a pop up free clothing boutique, and volunteering her time there. She definitely has a strong eye for fashion and a heart of gold, so I recommend stopping by and supporting her shop!

I appreciate what Quirk is doing and helping restoring the lives of those affected by the fires!!! It's always a humbling experience to give back to the community and receive services. Melinda (even tho' I'm so spelling her name wrong lol sorry) is always a cup of joy and so supportive. You are such a gem along with your team. I look forward to watching the free peoples boutique grow along with quirk. Thank you once again and words can never describe what an impact you have shown towards myself, family, friends and community.

Ten out of five stars for Melynda and her all volunteer Quirk crew for creating the People's Free Boutique in an unused corner space in DTLA, providing much needed, intentional, and high quality clothing and supplies for those of us who lost everything in LA's January fires. My family and I came to Quirk and were welcomed with care and respect, mirroring the quality and thoughtfulness of the clothing offered, and being given the dignity of choice to dress ourselves in clothing that we prefer. The Quirk crew were professional and kind, dealing with a gradually melting down child and frazzled adults, recognizing and validating the collective trauma of their guests, and providing a space of hope, solace, and care out of the goodness of their hearts. I was able to restock much of my professional and casual wardrobe, grab some high quality toiletries, kids clothing, and an epic penny board for my kid. I cannot recommend a visit to the People's Free Boutique and Melynda's Quirk store on 9th enough!

Melinda who started and runs Quirk the people free boutique is so amazing upbeat and selfless to continue to help all of us that lost our homes. Quirk has been a loving space for me to get help to start over again and a big part of my healing journey I have visited a couple of times and found wonderful clothes to help me get back to work and visit my son at college. It is organized, clean and has great donations. I am forever grateful and count Melinda as a new friend. I also met many other fire victims and ran into old friends. Had been a wonderful place for me as I begin my healing journey. 5 stars plus another 5 stars.

Quirk is WONDERFUL! Small but mighty, always new and exciting finds, plus the real deal when it comes to fashion and expression. Owned by a stylist/awesome fashionista, with a passion and drive that offers the best experience in vintage shopping. I got the most gorgeous silk blouse...and some shoes that fit me like Cinderella! If you live in Los Angeles, you know how hard it is to find awesome vintage at a reasonable price. From the fight over Dior at a thrift store, to the snobby and over priced 'bo-ho' Buffalo Exchange, to the trendy and overly pretentious places on Melrose-it's just another face in the crowd, on the scene. It's more comfortable and personable at Quirk. You get the deals, yeah-but the experience is worth more!
