Description

Product Description

A quietly striking 1960s pillbox hat constructed in tonal layers of ivory and pale cream.

Finely pleated sheer fabric wraps horizontally around the sides before spiraling inward across the crown, creating a sculptural rosette-like formation at the center. The narrow, closely spaced folds give the hat texture and movement while preserving its clean, compact silhouette.

A softly structured velvet-textured band finishes the lower edge, adding tonal contrast and a subtle change in surface. The monochromatic palette keeps the design elegant and understated, allowing the layered construction to remain the focal point.

Inside, the hat is built over a lightweight open-weave foundation and finished with a coordinating grosgrain interior band. Two attached combs help secure the hat to the hair.

Style it with a streamlined suit, a minimalist cocktail dress, tonal tailoring, or bridal separates. Its compact proportions and neutral coloring also make it a versatile option for costume design, portrait styling, formal events, or a curated vintage millinery collection.

Fit Notes

Best fits a modern size M based on documented item information.

The hat has a structured, fixed interior opening rather than an adjustable fit. Two interior combs are attached to help anchor the hat securely into styled hair.

No numeric hat size or exact interior circumference is provided.

Condition

Good vintage condition with visible age-related wear.

The pleated construction remains intact and the hat retains its structured pillbox shape. The sheer fabric shows general age-toning, faint discoloration, and light surface marks. The velvet-textured lower band displays visible darkening, uneven coloration, and handling wear.

The interior foundation and grosgrain band remain present. The two attached combs show age-related discoloration and wear.

These signs of age are visible on close inspection and are reflected in the condition grade.

Styling Notes

Style it with an ivory column dress, a sharp black suit, champagne satin, pearls, or tonal cream tailoring. It would also work beautifully as part of a courthouse bridal look or with a clean sheath dress and gloves.

The compact silhouette can be worn level across the crown or angled slightly for a more sculptural effect.

Curation Note

Each Quirk piece is hand selected by our team for quality, wearability, construction, styling potential, and point of view.

This store is about as good as it gets when it comes to second-hand, quality, and well known products. I can't speak as much on the women's section, but the men's had a very wide range of styles and brands. From amazing Ralph Lauren denim to classy vintage coats this place has the works. Not only is it a gem for its wares, but the owner of the place is just wonderful. She is nice and will help you find exactly what you're looking for, and maybe even something you didn't even know you needed. My pickups from my first time included a navy Air Force Peacoat, a cashmere v-neck sweater and a pair of that amazing Ralph Lauren denim that I mentioned. I would highly recommend this store to anyone if you are looking for higher end quality and rarity for a fair price. I know that I will definitely be making a return visit sometime soon.

One of the coolest places I’ve stumbled upon thus far. Unlike some other vintage stores where it feels like it’s full of marked-up Goodwill items, Melynda takes the time to research and select all the items she puts out in the store. When I stopped by, she even let me look through some items she hadn’t put out yet, and I found a really cool vintage Western button-up. The men’s section is not neglected either, full of some really cool shirts, pants, jackets, shoes, and other accessories. If you’re looking to find a unique piece in a friendly environment, this is the place for you.

I have joyfully followed Melynda and Quirk grow over the past year. Every time I get a little extra money I pop in to get a nice something-or-another for myself and leave with much more; life stories, fashion advice, and sometimes coffee. Each time I leave Quirk I look and feel a little smarter. Keep up the excellent work. -DC

I had such a wonderful time at Quirk. As someone who has never been to a fashion district and who has never been styled before, I hadn't extraordinary time getting to know my own sense of fashion. Melynda was so dope and helpful. She helped style me and gave me a new fresh look. I ended up buying something off of the $20 rack so she has affordable options as well. Definitely coming back again for my next shopping trip!

Did I jus say,"affordable?" I did NOT know that word still eXisted in fashion these daze, haha !! NO joke, she will sincerely work with ya on pricing. She's a doll, & she's knowledgeable about fashion. I UNeXpectedly "popped-in" & I found the most amazing "rock-starr" coat eva !! I wish this mini-vintage boutique much success.

My friends and I had a very pleasant and wonderful visit at Quirk. I got these beautiful snake skin shoes with a vintage neck scarf which i also fall in love with. I got compliments from people every time i wear them. I wanted to buy everything when I was there. There are jewelry, scarfs , shoes, dresses and the HATS. The price is very affordable so I was a happy shopper. The next best thing ( or the best ) about Quirk is the shop owner, Melynda. She is friendly and extremely helpful in helping you putting your dream outfits together and giving you advices when you needed them. She makes my shopping experience fun and comfortable. The shop is beautiful. I love the warmth and the openness of the shop. It stands out in the middle of the busy downtown LA streets. I will definitely come back and visit again when I come back to LA.

A hidden GEM! There’s so many vintage treasures left and right; from accessories to jackets to skirts. I was in there for a handful of hours trying on some amazing vintage, designer pieces and it felt like a dream! The owner, Melynda, was so sweet and encouraging when I was choosing my final purchases. I’m so happy I ran into this place and found some great pieces to add to my wardrobe! I have volunteered at the Fire Relief Free Boutique founded by Melynda for over a month and the whole experience has been amazing, I have seen people affected by the fires leaving the free boutique with a smile on their face after the free shopping experience, that’s something that fulfills the soul. Melynda is a great leader with a big heart, I’m proud to be part of this beautiful project.
