Description

Traditional tailoring, but considerably less serious.

This late 1970s to early 1980s sport coat is cut in a small-scale cream and tan houndstooth that reads softly neutral from a distance and becomes much more graphic up close. Rather than the expected charcoal, brown, or black, the palette moves through warm ivory, biscuit, camel, and pale beige.

The silhouette does most of the work. Structured shoulders give the jacket a clean upper line, while the body draws inward noticeably through the waist before falling into a longer tailored hem. Broad notch lapels frame the chest, and the two-button single-breasted front keeps the proportions sharp without pushing into costume territory.

Classic details include a welt chest pocket, two flap hip pockets, long sleeves with buttoned cuffs, and a clean tailored back. It has enough structure to completely change the shape of jeans and a tee, while the pale houndstooth keeps it softer than a conventional business blazer.

On Kaden, the jacket wears close through the shoulders, chest, and waist without obvious pulling. The length falls below the hip for the elongated silhouette associated with late 1970s and early 1980s menswear.

Wear it exactly as photographed over powder blue, pair it with washed denim and a ribbed tank, or move in the opposite direction with ivory trousers and a fine knit for a tonal look. Chocolate brown, oxblood, navy, faded black, tobacco, olive, and pale denim all work beautifully against the warm check.

Fit Notes

Estimated to best fit a modern men’s S/M.

On Kaden, the shoulder line sits close to the natural shoulder, the chest closes smoothly, and the jacket follows the waist rather than hanging boxy. The sleeves finish around the wrist and the jacket body extends well below the hip.

A modern men’s Small should receive a slightly easier classic fit. A modern men’s Medium should receive the close, sharply tailored fit shown here.

Because structured vintage jackets are more fit-sensitive than relaxed shirts or knitwear, shoppers who are particular about shoulder, chest, or sleeve fit should compare against a similarly shaped jacket they already own.

Condition

Very Good Vintage Condition.

The jacket presents very well overall. The cream and tan houndstooth remains clear and evenly colored, the tailored shape holds cleanly, both front buttons are present, and the visible exterior seams, pocket flaps, lapels, cuffs, shoulders, and back appear structurally sound.

Light handling creases and gentle surface wear are consistent with vintage age and previous use. No major holes, concentrated staining, open exterior seams, missing front buttons, or obvious large areas of fabric damage are visible in the supplied photographs.

Please review all images closely, as they form part of the condition description.

Styling Notes

Treat it as a neutral.

Powder blue, cream, navy, chocolate, oxblood, washed black, pale denim, olive, tobacco, and faded pink all sit easily against the warm houndstooth.

For something directional, wear it over a jumpsuit or boiler suit as photographed. For classic menswear, pair it with high-waisted trousers, a fine knit, and loafers. For everyday use, throw it over a white tee with vintage denim and let the tailoring do the work.

Styling / Cross-Sell Note

The powder-blue jumpsuit, shoes, jewelry, and other styling pieces shown are separate inventory and are not included with the jacket.

Connect the blue jumpsuit through Shop the Look if its product page is active.

Curation Note

Each Quirk piece is hand selected by our team for quality, construction, styling potential, and point of view.
