Description

A beautifully saturated 1960s cocktail hat in brilliant turquoise silk velvet, finished with an asymmetrical folded band, matching net veil, and a small gold-tone ornament set with a clear faceted stone.

The low, structured pillbox silhouette sits close to the crown, while the folded velvet detail gives the front a subtle sculptural sweep. The matching veil softens the strong turquoise color and creates the kind of polished, slightly dramatic finish associated with mid-century cocktail dressing.

Despite its compact scale, this hat has real visual impact. The jewel-tone palette feels especially fresh against black tailoring, a minimal column dress, a sharp vintage suit, or contrasting shades of red, orange, chartreuse, and pink. It is equally suited to formal dressing, editorial styling, theatrical wardrobe, costume design, or display within a vintage millinery collection.

No maker’s label is present. The interior retains a Union Made label. The 1960s attribution, silk velvet identification, and size are supported by the accompanying item documentation and visible construction.

Fit Notes

Estimated to fit a modern hat size Medium based on the item documentation. This compact cocktail style is designed to sit close to the crown rather than fully cover the head like a modern brimmed hat.

Placement can vary depending on hairstyle and the desired angle. Vintage hatpins or discreet bobby pins may be helpful for additional security. No numeric interior circumference is currently available.

Condition

Good vintage condition with strong overall presentation.

The turquoise silk velvet remains vivid and retains a soft, dimensional pile. The structured hat body presents well, and the gold-tone jewel accent remains attached.

The matching net veil is fragile and shows visible age-related wear, including breaks, fraying, irregular edges, loose sections, and tangling near the interior attachment. The condition of the veil lowers the overall grade despite the excellent presentation of the velvet hat body.

Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.

Styling Notes

Pair it with a black sheath dress, sharply tailored suit, minimal evening gown, silk blouse, or brightly colored vintage separates. The turquoise reads especially well with black, white, red, orange, chartreuse, lavender, and deep chocolate brown.

It would also be an excellent choice for cocktail dressing, weddings, church, Derby-inspired events, editorial shoots, performance, costume design, or collectors of sculptural mid-century accessories.

Curation Note

Each Quirk piece is hand selected by our team for quality, wearability, craftsmanship, styling potential, and distinctive point of view.

Love this store & Melinda beyond BEYOND She is so helpful and creative. Her fashion sense and charm will bring about the perfect outfit for any occasion. I went in 6 months pregnant, hot and in need of some fun looks to brighten up my life. Though at first I was hesitant to even step in the dressing room, within minutes of chatting I was up for trying on a slew of marvelous new styles! I even got the perfect shoes

I appreciate what Quirk is doing and helping restoring the lives of those affected by the fires!!! It's always a humbling experience to give back to the community and receive services. Melinda (even tho' I'm so spelling her name wrong lol sorry) is always a cup of joy and so supportive. You are such a gem along with your team. I look forward to watching the free peoples boutique grow along with quirk. Thank you once again and words can never describe what an impact you have shown towards myself, family, friends and community.

I volunteered at The People's Free Boutique while it was still in its temporary space, and I am better for it. It is a wonderful resource, Melynda has been so organized, compassionate, and all around an amazing leader for this huge effort to assist those impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires. Through some folks' worst days, Melynda and the Quirk team were there. It's amazing that Melynda has kept it up for as long as she has, and I hope the People's Free Boutique can stay open as long as there is a community need.

The Staff at The People’s Free Boutique is amazing. These folks make the space come alive and fill it with positive energy and a high level of support. The clothes are well organized by sizes and styles. Learning about the journey that the organizers took to make this boutique a reality was very inspiring to me. I learned that this idea became a reality on January 8th - one day after the fire. This shows the passion, planning, and drive of the staff. I brought home some much needed clothes and more importantly I left a better person with a renewed outlook on community and collaboration.

The owner, Melynda, is not just a salesperson; she's a magician with fashion. She effortlessly picked out pieces that perfectly suited my taste and body type, creating looks I never imagined possible. Thank you for the fabulous experience!

As an enthusiast of cool articles of clothing from from then to now and back again, I discovered a gem in dtla called Quirk! Co-owner Melynda always creates the best experience whenever I stop by...much like like visiting a friend and unlike some vintage shops there's always something new in rotation. Do yourself a favor folks and stop by!

I worked with Melynda on a professional photoshoot for my company and ever since then I have been going to her store. Such a great way to change up my style and find new unique items. I am a proud owner of a vintage Italian suit and have even rented a gown for a special event. Always looking for her insight when shopping there.

Just the most fabulous place and people ever My pockets have been tight, but I consistently find myself thinking about this shop and its owner. Not to mention that I'm reminded when I happen upon or wear one of my Quirk purchases. Need to go back soon!

This store is about as good as it gets when it comes to second-hand, quality, and well known products. I can't speak as much on the women's section, but the men's had a very wide range of styles and brands. From amazing Ralph Lauren denim to classy vintage coats this place has the works. Not only is it a gem for its wares, but the owner of the place is just wonderful. She is nice and will help you find exactly what you're looking for, and maybe even something you didn't even know you needed. My pickups from my first time included a navy Air Force Peacoat, a cashmere v-neck sweater and a pair of that amazing Ralph Lauren denim that I mentioned. I would highly recommend this store to anyone if you are looking for higher end quality and rarity for a fair price. I know that I will definitely be making a return visit sometime soon.

I had the pleasure of stumbling upon Quirk fairly recently and I am most certainly delighted I found this little gem! Located on a busy downtown street, its colorful, unique vintage items are arranged and merchandised well! For a small space, a diverse range of eclectic items will most certainly entice you! Trust me, ya won't leave without buying a little keeper! I love the Seven 4 all Mankind Tight pencil skirt I found and I have some items on hold I can't wait to get! The Owner/Stylist, Melynda is an absolute doll, and a pleasure to chat with as you browse the items, If you are a vintage fanatic or Fashionista, check this place out! Tiny but lots of little treasures that are reasonably priced!

Quirk is a great place to rent or buy unique clothing. Melynda has curated such a great variety of items. I rented a gorgeous gown for a work event and bought multiple things including a vintage Italian suit that I get complimented on all the time. I helped out the Free People's Boutique by Quirk by sorting racks and registering shoppers on a Saturday. It was a humbling experience. I was asked to pass on so much gratitude to Melynda and her team by every guest I had the pleasure to assist.

Quirk is the kind of place you walk into and immediately feel like you’ve inherited the wardrobe of a rich, eccentric aunt who traveled the world and kept all the best pieces. Every rack feels intentional, lived in, and full of personality. Nothing feels random. Each item has a story, and you can sense it the moment you start browsing. The bag selection alone is worth the stop. There are so many standout pieces that feel like true finds, not just resale. The kind of bags you don’t see twice. What really makes this place special is the owner, Melynda. She’s genuinely fun to talk to and clearly passionate about what she curates. You can tell there’s pride and care behind every piece in the shop. Talking with her about vintage fashion and the stories behind the items made the experience feel personal, not transactional. This ended up being one of the coolest spots I stumbled into in the fashion district. If you appreciate vintage that feels curated and soulful rather than picked over, Quirk is a must.
