1960s Black Vinyl Briefcase with Blue and Green Embroidery

Blue and green floral scrolls give this 1960s black vinyl briefcase an unexpected decorative turn. Its curved handle, gold-tone fittings and rectangular shape frame the embroidery; inside, a matte satin lining, multiple compartments, a zippered pocket and pen loops organize the essentials. There is room for papers and a modern laptop or iPad. Unlabeled, in very good to excellent vintage condition, with minor lining separation from aged glue. Carry it with a sharp trouser suit, denim or a bright mini and boots to bring the embroidery into everyday dressing.

Description

A briefcase with a very different idea of office dressing. Blue and green embroidery curls across the black vinyl exterior of this 1960s case, giving its rectangular shape a decorative surface. The curved top handle and gold-tone fittings keep the outline crisp while the repeating floral scrolls do the talking.

Inside, a matte satin lining and multiple compartments bring a practical counterpoint to the embroidery. There is room to organize pens and papers, with space for a modern laptop or iPad. A zippered organizer pocket and pen loops are shown in the blue interior. The case is unlabeled.

Condition

Very good to excellent vintage condition. There is minor interior separation of the lining from the inside of the case where the glue has aged. The existing lining can be reaffixed with fabric glue or taken to a local luggage repair service.

Styling

Carry it with a plain trouser suit and let the embroidery supply the pattern, or take a cue from our photographs and pair it with a bright green mini and tall boots. The blue and green threads also work neatly with denim and a simple knit. Its structured shape gives even a relaxed outfit a sharper finish.

Greatest vintage shop in LA! I always find the best vintage designer pieces here as well as original pieces made by the owner herself.

This store is about as good as it gets when it comes to second-hand, quality, and well known products. I can't speak as much on the women's section, but the men's had a very wide range of styles and brands. From amazing Ralph Lauren denim to classy vintage coats this place has the works. Not only is it a gem for its wares, but the owner of the place is just wonderful. She is nice and will help you find exactly what you're looking for, and maybe even something you didn't even know you needed. My pickups from my first time included a navy Air Force Peacoat, a cashmere v-neck sweater and a pair of that amazing Ralph Lauren denim that I mentioned. I would highly recommend this store to anyone if you are looking for higher end quality and rarity for a fair price. I know that I will definitely be making a return visit sometime soon.

I helped out the Free People's Boutique by Quirk by sorting racks and registering shoppers on a Saturday. It was a humbling experience. I was asked to pass on so much gratitude to Melynda and her team by every guest I had the pleasure to assist.

Quirk is WONDERFUL! Small but mighty, always new and exciting finds, plus the real deal when it comes to fashion and expression. Owned by a stylist/awesome fashionista, with a passion and drive that offers the best experience in vintage shopping. I got the most gorgeous silk blouse...and some shoes that fit me like Cinderella! If you live in Los Angeles, you know how hard it is to find awesome vintage at a reasonable price. From the fight over Dior at a thrift store, to the snobby and over priced 'bo-ho' Buffalo Exchange, to the trendy and overly pretentious places on Melrose-it's just another face in the crowd, on the scene. It's more comfortable and personable at Quirk. You get the deals, yeah-but the experience is worth more!

Quirk is the kind of place you walk into and immediately feel like you've inherited the wardrobe of a rich, eccentric aunt who traveled the world and kept all the best pieces. Every rack feels intentional, lived in, and full of personality. Nothing feels random. Each item has a story, and you can sense it the moment you start browsing. The bag selection alone is worth the stop. There are so many standout pieces that feel like true finds, not just resale. The kind of bags you don't see twice. What really makes this place special is the owner, Melynda. She's genuinely fun to talk to and clearly passionate about what she curates. You can tell there's pride and care behind every piece in the shop. Talking with her about vintage fashion and the stories behind the items made the experience feel personal, not transactional. This ended up being one of the coolest spots I stumbled into in the fashion district. If you appreciate vintage that feels curated and soulful rather than picked over, Quirk is a must.

This is such a fabulous find! A true gem tucked away in DTLA!! I went looking for vintage men’s items to match a watch I was gifted, and Melynda helped me pick out the most beautiful suit. She’s amazing too - she has the most fun and quirky style, but also donates clothes to victims of the wildfires. She gave me a tour of “The People’s Free Boutique” and it’s laid out to make those who have lost everything feel like they are really shopping for high-end items rather than getting things for free. I will be back to support Quirk Vintage again!!
