Description
Blue and green florals have room to bloom across this vintage taffeta gown. A clean sleeveless bodice and defined waist lead into a long, full skirt, with a small bow at the waist and a discreet back zip. The pale ground keeps the print airy, even with all that fabric in the skirt.
The balance is what makes it work. A relatively simple upper half gives the floral pattern and fullness below the waist their space. Taffeta brings crispness to the shape, holding the skirt away from the body more than a soft, fluid fabric would. The folds break up the print as you move, revealing different patches of blue and green.
A defined waist and generous skirt are central to the mid-century evening silhouette. This gown has that romantic, dressed-for-the-occasion feeling, but you can make the styling as relaxed or as formal as the invitation requires.
For a garden party, or after dark
A plain cardigan and low heels soften the formality for daytime. Choose a blue or green already in the print if you enjoy a coordinated outfit, or bring in coral for a warmer contrast. Keep the cardigan short enough to show the waist and let the skirt keep its shape.
For evening, try sculptural earrings and a cropped jacket. A sharply cut layer makes a good foil for the flowers. A small metallic bag adds light without introducing another pattern; there is already plenty to enjoy in this one.
