Side Quest at Sol is a framed street photograph with an unexpected leading character: a costumed Mario beside a station entrance, holding a twisted balloon as the city carries on around him. His red cap and blue overalls interrupt the gray metal, pale stone and everyday foot traffic. The station sign supplies the title; the scene supplies the joke.
The vertical composition puts the costumed figure low in the frame, beneath the broad Sol sign and a sliver of blue sky. From across the room, the architecture reads first.
