Description

A striking pair of vintage Yves Saint Laurent knee-high boots in taupe-grey suede.

The tall shafts are cut with dramatically angled openings that rise higher along the outer leg, creating an elongated, sculptural line. Dark braided cords lace through suede loops along the outer sides and finish with substantial tassels, adding movement and contrast against the softly mottled suede.

Tapered semi-pointed toes and low sculpted heels keep the silhouette elegant and wearable. Metallic gold-tone interiors add a flash of polish to the earthy palette, while the black outsoles feature textured rubber forefoot sections embossed with the YSL monogram.

The suede’s tonal variation gives the boots dimension, while the asymmetrical topline and elaborate side lacing make them visually compelling from every angle.

Wear them with a fluid midi dress, a short skirt and opaque tights, narrow trousers tucked into the shafts, or an oversized knit layered over a slip. The taupe-grey color works especially well with black, cream, chocolate brown, oxblood, olive, and muted metallics.

Fit Notes

Marked European size 36 and estimated to best fit a modern women’s US 5.5/6.

The tapered toe and visually narrow footbed may create a closer fit than a rounded contemporary boot in the same marked size. The braided side lacing appears to allow some adjustment through the shaft, but tall-boot fit also depends on calf circumference, shaft height, top opening, and leg shape.

Approximate modern international equivalents are UK 2.5/3, EU/FR/IT 35.5/36, and JP 22.5/23. These conversions are guidance rather than guaranteed equivalents because fit varies according to maker, production period, last, foot width, calf circumference, and preferred toe room.

Condition

Very Good Vintage Condition.

The suede remains supple-looking, and the boots retain their tall, sculptural silhouette. Visible wear includes natural and wear-related nap variation, softly mottled darkening, faint surface marks, creasing and slouching around the ankles and lower shafts, light rubbing at the toes and heel counters, and expected creasing and surface wear to the metallic gold-tone interiors.

The braided cords, suede loops, and tassels appear substantially intact. The textured rubber forefoot sections show light use, both heel tips remain present, and adhesive or sticker residue is visible along the arch portions of the outsoles.

No major tears, extensive bald patches, sole separation, collapsed heel, broken lacing, or missing tassels are visible in the supplied photographs. Please review all images closely, particularly the suede toes, lower shafts, lacing, tassels, heel tips, and outsoles.

Styling Notes

Let the height and lacing carry the look. Pair these with a soft slip dress, a fitted mini and oversized knit, a narrow midi skirt, or slim trousers tucked into the shafts.

For a more directional approach, style them with tonal taupe layers, a sharply cut black coat, or a romantic blouse and abbreviated hemline.

Curation Note

Each Quirk piece is hand-selected by our team for quality, construction, styling potential, and point of view.

Authenticity Note

Designer items are reviewed before being brought to market. Quirk takes authenticity seriously, and the sale of counterfeit goods is illegal. Any included third-party authentication paperwork will be noted clearly.

I worked with Melynda on a professional photoshoot for my company and ever since then I have been going to her store. Such a great way to change up my style and find new unique items. I am a proud owner of a vintage Italian suit and have even rented a gown for a special event. Always looking for her insight when shopping there.

QUIRK is the absolute best. I've come several times since 2020 and they never miss. Melynda is a top-tier curator. All her pieces feel hand-picked with thought, care, and a keen eye for taste and style. It's easy to find a great deal here: I've found a vintage Dior wallet at QUIRK, as well as multiple outfits for red carpets, premieres, photoshoots, and day-to-day wear. She keeps prices super fair and reasonable while knowing her stuff when it comes to true vintage, designer, and quality. I always know I'm getting my money's worth. As someone who loves vintage shopping, thrifting, and flea/artist/vintage markets, I'm always looking for vendors and stores, and QUIRK is one of those special places where you can tell vintage is a real passion, not just a place to make a quick buck on a Tiktok trend (though you can definitely find super trendy pieces here too!). At QUIRK, I'd say clothes are treated like found treasure looking for their forever home! I come back again and again because the pieces are fun and always changing. As a store owner, Melynda is friendly, knowledgable, and is great at offering styling advice for each customer's unique taste. She keeps such a positive shopping atmosphere in the store—I'll always keep returning! Love love love it!

Upon having dinner in DTLA a friend and I stumbled upon QUIRK, what a treasure of a vintage store. A hidden gem!!! An insider's secret.. but not for long. Loved Melynda's eye for well curated vintage clothing and accessories. Working as a stylist in Films and Editorial, Melynda is defintely on point. Instantly we felt right at home in her inviting shop. From designer to hard to find vintage, its all there. What a happy find!!!

This is Amazing what Melynda with Quirk has done to help the residents of the LA Fires! She jumped in without hesitation and put her own biz in hold to help others in need. Taking in donations from everyone kindly donating including myself gathering toiletries and rolling racks with the help from the people in my home town Santa Barbara! She created a Free shopping boutique with very stylish clothes , shoes, handbags and also stuff for kids! Also added in Hair and facial services so people can feel good during these trying times! She's amazing and thank you for everything you are doing! You Rock girl!!! Many continued blessings to you!! Patricia

An absolute gem of a boutique, with a constant stream of unique vintage pieces! I was able to get the perfect dress, pumps, handbag, and hat for a formal tea at very short notice. The store is easy to access in the second floor of a fashion design building. The owner is a talented costume designer with a wealth of experience from film and more. Whether you go in with a decade-specific goal in mind, or are just looking for a special treasure, you will surely find something magical!!!

It was my 2nd or 3rd time browsing the site, and my first time purchasing from it. I was familiar with the site and brand (was recommended by a close friend of mine who has good taste), and decided to check it out. I liked the layout of the site, made it pretty easy to look for what I like, and found what I wanted in like 4 minutes after browsing. Paying was straightforward, I received the package in about 10 days (flat fee for shipping), and it fit pretty well. The shirt fit me well, and I liked the length of it which was longer than typical shirts, I appreciated the minimalism of it. All in all, a great purchase! 5 stars.

Quirk is a great place to rent or buy unique clothing. Melynda has curated such a great variety of items. I rented a gorgeous gown for a work event and bought multiple things including a vintage Italian suit that I get complimented on all the time. It is a wonder place to discover and elevate your personal style.
