Great vintage shop in Downtown! With all the new vintage stores popping up around LA these days, Quirk really stands out with having unique, high quality items that are personally curated by the owner, Melynda, who is also a professional stylist and costume designer. Most vintage shops these days are just filled with XXL 80s/90s shirts, and overpriced jeans. Quirk has one-of-a-kind items that have made me a return customer. Quirk is the kind of place you walk into and immediately feel like you've inherited the wardrobe of a rich, eccentric aunt who traveled the world and kept all the best pieces. Every rack feels intentional, lived in, and full of personality. Nothing feels random. Each item has a story, and you can sense it the moment you start browsing.

The bag selection alone is worth the stop. There are so many standout pieces that feel like true finds, not just resale. The kind of bags you don't see twice.

What really makes this place special is the owner, Melynda. She's genuinely fun to talk to and clearly passionate about what she curates. You can tell there's pride and care behind every piece in the shop. Talking with her about vintage fashion and the stories behind the items made the experience feel personal, not transactional.

My experience with Quirk was online. I was in some need of something white to wear that catches the eye, and found something that suited my taste in a few minutes. I had a fun time browsing the site, looking at the selection that was offered, it was fun to see so many bright colors, which is why it was a pleasent surprise for me to find something I felt more comfortable with. I made my purchase online after seeing how the sizes were measured (which was more detailed than most other sites), and felt confident making my choice. After about 10 days it arrived, and it was exactly how I saw it on the site. As an enthusiast of cool articles of clothing from from then to now and back again, I discovered a gem in dtla called Quirk!  Co-owner Melynda always creates the best experience whenever I stop by...much like like visiting a friend and unlike some vintage shops there's always something new in rotation. This place is the bomb!! Super cool fun eclectic selection and owner Melinda is the bomb!! Walked in just before closing and she was patient and helpful and hooked me up with the bright blue vintage Jumpsuit & metallic belt of my dreams. :) Not to mention a rad purple Phillip Lim top on sale for $20. This is such a fabulous find! A true gem tucked away in DTLA!! I went looking for vintage men’s items to match a watch I was gifted, and Melynda helped me pick out the most beautiful suit. She’s amazing too - she has the most fun and quirky style, but also donates clothes to victims of the wildfires. She gave me a tour of “The People’s Free Boutique” and it’s laid out to make those who have lost everything feel like they are really shopping for high-end items rather than getting things for free. I had such a wonderful time at Quirk. As someone who has never been to a fashion district and who has never been styled before,  I hadn't extraordinary time getting to know my own sense of fashion. Melynda was so dope and helpful. She helped style me and gave me a new fresh look. I ended up buying something off of the $20 rack so she has affordable options as well. An absolute gem of a boutique, with a constant stream of unique vintage pieces! I was able to get the perfect dress, pumps, handbag, and hat for a formal tea at very short notice. The store is easy to access in the second floor of a fashion design building.

Upon having dinner in DTLA a friend and I stumbled upon QUIRK, what a treasure of a vintage store. A hidden gem!!! An insider's secret.. but not for long. Loved Melynda's eye for well curated vintage clothing and accessories. Working as a stylist in Films and Editorial, Melynda is defintely on point. My mom and I found the Peoples Free Boutique by Quirk after the fires devastated our neighborhood in Altadena. We've been building care boxes for an entire group of people, not just ourselves, and were welcomed into the space. It allowed us to recreate beautiful closets in a safe space, which has become harder to find as the relief efforts continue in the second wave. Very grateful for the energy and dedication that Melynda and her team of volunteers had shown to our community!!

Go check out the Peoples Free Boutique on Spring St if you've been impacted by the fires they will help you rebuild and feel fabulous! If you weren't impacted by the fires but want to support Quirk for now you would message Melynda on Instagram to set up a shopping appointment! I volunteered at The People's Free Boutique while it was still in its temporary space, and I am better for it. It is a wonderful resource, Melynda has been so organized, compassionate, and all around an amazing leader for this huge effort to assist those impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires. Through some folks' worst days, Melynda and the Quirk team were there. It's amazing that Melynda has kept it up for as long as she has, and I hope the People's Free Boutique can stay open as long as there is a community need.

I finally walked in after walking by for years when I heard they were in need for volunteers for their donation drive. I'm ashamed I haven't found this store before.

The owner is fantastic, she hopped out of a hospital bed and straight to setting up this push to help people. The store, as it's known, on the fourth floor feels like you are thriving with some of the most upbeat staff to aid you find everything you need for woman's clothing, toiletries, and undergarments.

On the second is where you can find an almost equal amount of men's, rare to have this ratio in any department store. Kids all the way down to infants, with diapers, and toys. Here you can see volunteers going from room to room sorting through, sizing, and cleaning up donations to stock both floors.

Snacks, water, non-perishable food, and a welcome environment has made this a far distinction from digging through a pile of T-shirts on a folding table.

My time volunteering here has been exhausting in the best way, the tiredness that comes with knowing you've done good, that your work and presence are valued. I'll continue to be here everyday I can until Melynda gets tired of me saying, "Happy ___day!"
