Description
A little geometry goes a long way. Yellow panels meet angled bands of pale blue, cream and dark ink across this straight Missoni skirt. The patterned waistband keeps the line neat, while the changes in color and direction make the surface feel animated.
Mixing color and pattern has long been part of the Missoni vocabulary. By the early 1970s, Ottavio and Rosita Missoni’s layered combinations were being celebrated as a new way to put an outfit together, with room for the wearer’s own taste. This linen skirt gives you a manageable starting point for that idea: its contained shape can carry a lively pattern without dictating the entire outfit.
Play with the angles
Wear it with a close-fitting tee and loafers, or add a crisp white shirt and deliberately loud earrings. Pale blue at the top will pick up the cooler bands in the skirt. A fine striped knit in one of its colors is another way to play with pattern, particularly if the stripe is much smaller than the broad chevrons.
For an evening version, try a dark camisole and a low sandal, letting the yellow stand out against the quieter top. A short jacket keeps the waistband and most of the graphic design visible. The linen brings its own natural creasing to the look; it is a material to enjoy with a little ease.
