Description

Product Description
A playful 1970s Koret of California Striped Knit Button Front Vest sleeveless knit vest in a graphic stripe palette of turquoise, tan, cream, and warm brown. The textured knit gives the piece a little structure and dimension, while the longline button-front shape keeps it feeling clean and wearable.

The silhouette is especially good: sleeveless with a rounded neckline, white buttons down the front, and a pointed front hem that gives the vest a slightly tailored finish. It has that bright, sunny California sportswear feeling without being overly retro or costume-like.

Koret of California was founded in 1939 by Stephanie and Joe Koret and became known for practical, coordinated American sportswear. The label’s early success was built around knit separates, including its Trikskirt, which helped establish Koret as a recognizable California ready-to-wear name. (Vintage Fashion Guild)

Marked size 10. Shown on Dominique, who is 5’9″ and typically wears a modern high-fashion size 2/4, with a 32B bust, 25″ waist, and 37″ hips. On Dominique, this has a slim but comfortable fit through the bust and waist, with a longer line through the hip. Best for a modern XS/S, or possibly a smaller medium depending on measurements and preferred fit. Please compare measurements before purchasing.

Fit Notes
Marked size 10. Shown on Dominique, who is 5’9″ and typically wears a modern high-fashion size 2/4, with a 32B bust, 25″ waist, and 37″ hips.

On Dominique, this fits close but not tight through the bust and waist, with a longline vest shape that extends over the hip. The cut gives it more polish than a basic sweater vest, especially with the button-front closure and pointed hem. Best for a modern XS/S, or a closer fit on a smaller medium depending on exact measurements.

Please compare measurements to a similar vest or sleeveless top you already own.

Condition
Good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age. No major structural flaws visible in the provided photos. There appear to be a few small faint marks or areas of discoloration near the front button placket/lower front, and some normal age-related wear to the interior label. Please review photos closely and confirm in person before publishing.

Styling Notes
Style with:
A pleated midi skirt and metallic kitten heels
High-rise denim and a slim belt
Cream trousers and a low sandal
A fitted turtleneck layered underneath for cooler weather
A column skirt or wide-leg pant for a cleaner 70s sportswear line

Size Chart

Vintage sizing varies greatly by brand, country, garment type, and time period. The marked vintage size may not reflect today’s sizing standards. Whenever possible, we provide both the original marked size and our estimated modern US size equivalent. This estimate is based on the item’s era, construction, fabric behavior, relevant size references, and how the piece fits on the model shown. We do not clip, pin, or artificially alter garments when photographing them. The model’s size, measurements, and visible fit are the best guides for understanding modern fit. I highly recommend supporting this local business. The owner Melynda has been so generous in helping out fire victims by creating a pop up free clothing boutique, and volunteering her time there. She definitely has a strong eye for fashion and a heart of gold, so I recommend stopping by and supporting her shop!

I appreciate what Quirk is doing and helping restoring the lives of those affected by the fires!!! It's always a humbling experience to give back to the community and receive services. Melinda (even tho' I'm so spelling her name wrong lol sorry) is always a cup of joy and so supportive. You are such a gem along with your team. I look forward to watching the free peoples boutique grow along with quirk. Thank you once again and words can never describe what an impact you have shown towards myself, family, friends and community.

Ten out of five stars for Melynda and her all volunteer Quirk crew for creating the People's Free Boutique in an unused corner space in DTLA, providing much needed, intentional, and high quality clothing and supplies for those of us who lost everything in LA's January fires. My family and I came to Quirk and were welcomed with care and respect, mirroring the quality and thoughtfulness of the clothing offered, and being given the dignity of choice to dress ourselves in clothing that we prefer. The Quirk crew were professional and kind, dealing with a gradually melting down child and frazzled adults, recognizing and validating the collective trauma of their guests, and providing a space of hope, solace, and care out of the goodness of their hearts. I was able to restock much of my professional and casual wardrobe, grab some high quality toiletries, kids clothing, and an epic penny board for my kid. I cannot recommend a visit to the People's Free Boutique and Melynda's Quirk store on 9th enough!

Melinda who started and runs Quirk the people free boutique is so amazing upbeat and selfless to continue to help all of us that lost our homes. Quirk has been a loving space for me to get help to start over again and a big part of my healing journey I have visited a couple of times and found wonderful clothes to help me get back to work and visit my son at college. It is organized, clean and has great donations. I am forever grateful and count Melinda as a new friend. I also met many other fire victims and ran into old friends. Had been a wonderful place for me as I begin my healing journey. 5 stars plus another 5 stars.

Quirk is WONDERFUL! Small but mighty, always new and exciting finds, plus the real deal when it comes to fashion and expression. Owned by a stylist/awesome fashionista, with a passion and drive that offers the best experience in vintage shopping. I got the most gorgeous silk blouse...and some shoes that fit me like Cinderella! If you live in Los Angeles, you know how hard it is to find awesome vintage at a reasonable price. From the fight over Dior at a thrift store, to the snobby and over priced 'bo-ho' Buffalo Exchange, to the trendy and overly pretentious places on Melrose-it's just another face in the crowd, on the scene. It's more comfortable and personable at Quirk. You get the deals, yeah-but the experience is worth more!
