Description
Blue from shoulder to flared hem, with quite a lot happening in between. Bands of white and pale purple pattern run across this matching knit vest and trouser set. The long sleeveless vest has a zip front and patch pockets, with a matching tie shown at the waist. The trousers carry the pattern downward before widening at the ankle.
This 1960s set combines flared trousers and bold pattern, bringing a more expressive approach to the two-piece leisure suit. What makes this set work visually is the repetition: the two pieces share a pattern, but the longer vest and flared leg change its proportions. Worn together, they have far more presence than a plain trouser suit.
Breathable knit fabric connects the two pieces through texture as well as pattern.
Wear it together, then take it apart
A simple sandal gives the full look room to breathe. The gold-toned shoes in our photographs add a little shine beneath the blue without introducing another print. For cooler weather, try a fine white knit underneath and a boot that sits neatly under the flare.
The trousers also make a good partner for a tucked-in white T-shirt and a short denim jacket. Wear the vest over a close-fitting top with plain navy trousers, or let it break up an otherwise all-white outfit. A small bag in one of the pattern’s colors will tie things together without asking everything to match.
